A Pipe Foreman manages the installation of underground utility systems, including storm drain, sanitary sewer, and water lines, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project specifications. They lead and coordinate pipe crews, assign daily tasks, and monitor productivity while maintaining high standards of quality and workmanship.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead crews installing underground utility systems, including storm drain, sanitary sewer, and water lines
- Read and interpret construction drawings, site plans, and utility profiles
- Verify grades, elevations, and pipe alignment to ensure compliance with project specifications
- Operate heavy equipment, including dozers, excavators, and loaders, as needed
- Coordinate daily activities with superintendents, inspectors, and other field personnel
- Maintain a safe, productive job site while enforcing OSHA regulations and company safety standards
- Train, mentor, and develop crew members while maintaining productivity and workmanship
- Complete daily reports, production tracking, and other required documentation
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience installing underground utilities in a civil construction environment
- Previous experience leading pipe crews as a Foreman or Lead Pipe Layer
- Proficiency operating heavy equipment, including dozers, excavators, and loaders
- Ability to read construction plans, calculate grades, and verify elevations
- Strong knowledge of underground utility installation methods and erosion control practices
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Proficiency with technology for daily reports, time-keeping, and project documentation
- Valid driver's license
- High-school diploma or equivalent; trade school or related construction training is a plus
